Depo-Provera is a progestogen-only contraceptive that is injected every 3 months.
Depo-Provera carries a black box warning on its label warning consumers of the negative effect of long-term use of the drug (more than 2 years) on bone density. Women who take Depo-Provera are at risk for developing osteoporosis and osteopenia.
Other potential side effects of Depo-Provera include deep vein thrombosis, derpression, loss of fertility, and cervical cancer.
