DES, diethylstilbestrol, is a synthetic estrogen drug that was given to millions of pregnant women primarily from 1938-1971. Use of DES during pregnancy was thought to prevent miscarriage and ensure a healthy pregnancy, but DES did not work. Women who took DES and the children they carried are at risk for certain health problems and may need special care.
Side effects of in utero DES exposure include:
clear cell adenocarcinoma
infertility
paraovarian cists
miscarriage
ectopic pregnancy
structural abnormalities of the reproductive organs
breast cancer
uterine fibroids
endometriosis
If you took DES while pregnant, tell your children about their DES exposure. Even if your children have not yet had health problems, they need to know about DES so they can get healthcare they mmay need now or in the future.
If you have been injured by DES, please contact our office to discuss your legal options. |
